I'm a fan of the author's by way of his YouTube channel, and was interested in seeing how his work on long form game critique compares to his written works.I found The Wizard and the Dragon to be pretty enjoyable overall. This wizard and dragon are guardians at the gates of Ragnarok, the Norse version of hell. They exude power and evil! This is a double matted unframed 11x14 print matted to an 16x20 size and placed in a 16x20 glassed frame. This is an 11x14 dragon print. We use archival inks, and archival matte.
Bryce and Tower both are engaging characters, and I was propelled by desire to learn more about them and how the story ends. There are certainly some pacing issues which hurt my impression of the story as a whole. A large chunk of the book is, to trivialize a bit, a training/schooling sequence set in a single location. I wouldn't say I was bored, but, especially due to the fact that there are only the two characters, I found myself wishing they would 'get on with it' at certain points. I also found, without giving anything away, the ending sequence to be interesting if a bit rushed, especially by comparison to the earlier chapters of the book.Overall, I'd recommend The Wizard and the Dragon, settling on a low 4-star. It's a fun and creative fantasy work that is pretty good about not wasting a ton of time.
It's refreshing to not immediately commit to a thousand page tome, that's part of a series consisting of 7+ books, to get an entertaining fantasy novel with some good world building. This was just not good. There was some potential, since the magic system was at least vaguely interesting - spells are largely powered by energy drawn from gems. However, the fact that there are barely any characters, and those that are present aren't very interesting hurt this a lot. Further, the writing is fairly clunky and dragged things down a lot. Still, I was starting to get into this, and then halfway through a rather ridiculous plot twist happened.

The narrator travels back in time and it turns out he is the wizard that taught him magic. The worst part of this is it means there is a grand total of one significant character in the entire book. This was dumb and ridiculous on so many levels that I just couldn't care anymore, and so I'm giving up. I really don't understand why there are so many positive reviews here and on Amazon. I had high hopes for this based on the first chapter, which was actually fairly good, but sadly, this managed to be one of the most disappointing books I've read recently.
